Sage continues to deliver quarterly enhancements that make Sage Intacct more powerful for finance teams. While every release includes dozens of updates, we like to focus on the features that have the biggest impact on day-to-day accounting operations.
In our latest webinar, we reviewed the Sage Intacct 2026 R2 release and spent time discussing banking automation capabilities that many organizations already own but haven’t fully implemented.

Customer Refunds Finally Get a Better Workflow
One of the most practical additions in this release is the ability to process customer refunds through Accounts Payable.
Historically, customer refunds often required accounting teams to coordinate between Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable using manual workarounds. The credit originated in AR, but the actual payment typically came from AP, making it difficult to track the entire process.
The new workflow allows AR to create the refund while Intacct automatically generates a linked AP bill for payment. The refund, bill, and payment remain connected throughout the process, providing better visibility and stronger segregation of duties.
Improved Multi-Currency Visibility
Organizations operating across multiple currencies know that one of the biggest challenges isn’t the accounting itself – it’s understanding which currency you’re actually looking at.
The R2 release introduces clearer reporting around bank currency, transaction currency, and base currency across payment screens, reports, and registers. These changes make it easier to understand transactions and reduce confusion when working in global environments.
Better Security Administration
Administrators finally have access to a Role Permissions Report.
While it may not sound exciting, it’s a welcome improvement for administrators and auditors. Instead of reviewing permissions user by user, you can now review exactly what access a particular role provides, making periodic security reviews much easier.
Fixed Assets Continue to Improve
Customers using the newer Fixed Assets module can now split an existing asset into multiple assets while preserving depreciation history.
This addresses a common real-world scenario where a single asset purchase later needs to be tracked as separate assets without relying on manual adjustments or spreadsheets. During the webinar we also discussed the importance of upgrading from the legacy Fixed Assets module, as Sage continues investing in the newer platform.
Finance Intelligent Agent Continues to Roll Out
We also provided an update on Sage’s new Finance Intelligent Agent (FIA).
FIA allows users to ask natural language questions about their financial data directly inside Sage Intacct. Rather than exporting reports or manually searching through transactions, users can ask questions and receive explanations of both the answer and how it was derived.
Importantly, FIA respects existing user permissions, meaning users only receive answers based on information they already have access to view. During the Q&A we also discussed Sage’s AI architecture, security model, and how the Finance Intelligent Agent differs from external AI platforms like ChatGPT and Claude.
Banking Automation Still Represents One of the Biggest ROI Opportunities
The second half of the webinar focused on banking automation.
One theme continues to come up in conversations with customers: many organizations are only using a fraction of the automation already available in Sage Intacct. Depending on when your implementation occurred, there may be newer capabilities that were not available at the time or simply were never configured.
We covered:
- Bank Feed connection options, from file imports to direct API integrations
- The advantages and limitations of standard aggregator connections
- Direct banking integrations through providers such as FISPAN and AccessPay
- Match Rules that automatically reconcile transactions
- Creation Rules that automatically create journal entries and other transactions
- Rule Sets that help organize automation by bank account or entity
- Customer Assignment Rules that automatically identify incoming customer payments and assist with applying cash receipts
For many finance teams, these improvements don’t save hours on any single transaction. Instead, they eliminate dozens – or hundreds – of repetitive tasks every month while improving consistency and reducing manual data entry. As we discussed during the webinar, those small efficiencies add up quickly across multiple bank accounts and accounting periods.
